Presenting Night Thoughts Vol. 1: A Miscellany of Melancholy.

Night Thoughts is a gothic zine exploring all that is mystical, melancholic and moonlit. A candle in the darkness as the night draws in. Venture with us, dear reader, beyond the veil.

Have you ever asked yourself what black bile is? Why does the willow weep and the snake devour its own tail? What are those lights that shine over the marshes? Volume 1 of Nights Thoughts addresses those questions and more. A collection of eight essays, each with carefully curated accompanying archival imagery, delving into all manner of gothic subject matter from the creators of Haus Nostromo.

Night Thoughts is intended to be a refuge from our weird and worrysome world. A sanctuary to escape the blue light, the scroll, the shouting. A quiet place where joy and inspiration can be gathered from the darkness and where the ferryman waits to guide us to those unusual places that lie beyond the crassness of the algorithm. We navigate these crepuscular themes and delve beneath their superficial gloominess. What we find can be surprisingly uplifting. We trace patterns in the human condition through the ages, take heart in a shared experience that can sometimes feel elusive in the cold light of day. We find enduring mythology, beautiful symbolism and galvanising strength. And in these Night Thoughts we start to come upon something resembling a philosophy. A way to draw from the past and make sense of our present.
